Genetic
Morph: Caramel Albino ( T + ),
Xanthic
Status: Proven
Simple Recessive
When: 1996
By Whom: NERD
This mutation goes by many names: T+ (tyrosinase)
Albino, Xanthic or Caramel Albino. Red eyes
with a yellow/orange body color and lavender/orange
patterning characterize this albino trait.
The pattern is typically distinct in smaller
animals and a bit more muted on adults.
The T+ theory means that this morph has
a functional tyrosinase enzyme. This enzyme
is responsible or partly responsible for
the production of melanin. An amelanistic
albino would be considered a T- since the
enzyme is completely turned off or is lacking
in that particular mutation. We have enjoyed
working with the Caramel project thus far
- our bloodline is strong and resulting
offspring have been great feeders. At this
point we are at the tip of the iceberg when
considering all of the possible combinations
of Caramel/T+ Albinos with other ball python
mutations.

There
have been many instances where homozygous
Caramels have emerged from the eggs with
sever birth defects and kinks..........I
have had zero problems with the het Caramels
as far as defects ..........I have produced
many kinked Caramels from breeding Caramel
x Het Caramel as have other breeders.
Some
breeders think that the Caramel eggs need
to be incubated with less humidity to solve
the kinking problem?........I don't know
of any "Caramel Line" that has
not produced a kinked baby or a baby with
a twist or small kink in the tail. ( RDR
