Mutation - Simple Recessive ( Pete
Kahl )
Peter
Kahl and I live very close to each
other, and are good friends, so I
have been fortunate enough to see
this project materialize into something
huge!! When I first met Pete, he had
started producing hets for Piebald
but he did not know if it was an inheritable
trait at the time. I was feeling pretty
"gutsy" and decided to purchase
a pair of hets before the trait was
proven to be genetic.
Well............we all know it is
GENETIC now and it is one of the best
investments I ever made. What can
I say.....the Piebald speaks for it
self!!!.........They are totally variable
as to how much white will be one their
bodies...........thats what makes
them so awesome!!!............No two
are alike. Some people like the "high
white" Pieds...............and
some people like the "low white"
Pieds..........I say all Pieds are
gorgeous!!!!!!!!!
I
like the "High White" Pieds
the best............but I will say
that the "Low White" ones
are unreal too!!............the Low
White Pieds have pattern that is a
"new mutation" on it's own...........they
look like "Jungle Stripes"..........with
small amounts of white........
I
know that Piebalds are on most ball
python enthusiast's "wish lists"
and they should be...........the Piebald
is just breath taking............thats
all I can say........:).............and
I look forward to hatching them each
and every year I breed for them.
In
2002 I bred a Piebald male to a Lavender
Albino female........this produced
2 males and 4 females that are Double
Het for Lavender Albino Pied!!!............I
can't wait to see that!
You
will see in the pics below a ball
python with a white patch near his
tail...........this is a snake that
was imported as a Piebald............I
bought him...........I'm not sure
what he is???...........if he is a
"Ringer"..........he just
may be the best I have seen.............I
will devote a small project to him
to see if he is indeed a very very
low white Piebald???...........I seriously
doubt he is..........but it is worth
a shot.
I
can't think of any mutation that should
not be combined with the piebald?
