Scientific
Name: Python regius
Common Name: Ball
Python
Morph: Burgundy
Genetics: Color Mutation
- Simple Recessive ( RDR Line )
Well..........this
is "another" one of those
unproven mutations........... ...this
type of ball python is also referred
to as Chocolate Hypomelanistic. I
have heard different breeders refer
to these in both the name of Chocolates
and Burgundies. I have been building
quite a nice group of these burgundy
balls...in hope of proving their genetics.
I have heard about and seen ball pythons
that were a two toned brown......a
chocolate brown it was described.
These two toned brown snakes did not
interest me as being anything "special"........until
one day I was sent a few pics of "Brick
Red" ball pythons.......they
were being called Chocolate Hypos....I
was not interested until I saw the
pics. When I viewed the pics I said......."that
is not a chocolate hypo........its
RED!!!!!" So I pursued a small
group of adults that were available
and all of them were sporting a base
color of tan/cream ........and the
"Brick Red" banding. They
kinda have a "stone wash"
look to them also????
These guys lack black totally!!!......and
brown (as we know it in a normal ball)
as well. The pics you will see here
are all imports.....one of the females
came in gravid and laid 9 eggs the
same day I received her......all but
one egg went bad immediately............on
4/28/00.......I cut the only surviving
egg and the baby was alive and well!!!!!.....If
this gene proves out??????........It
will be a great morph to breed into
the albinos.........this will create
double hets for "Pumpkin"
ball.......LOL........anyway....enjoy
the pics......I consider these to
be excellent examples of the Burgundy
Ball morph?????? ........and yes I
know that these are not the only ones
out there......when I started showing
off my pics.......Burgundy/Chocos
started coming out of the wood work!
~~
Update I ~~......that
egg that hatched from the above text.......was
a girl!!!..........and since then
I have produced hets for the Burgundy.........stay
tuned!
~~
Update II ~~ I bred
a het "Burg" male back to
his "Burg" mom in 2003............4
babies were produced..............2
of the babies are "Burgundy Balls".........so
the animals I'm working with have
proved to be simple recessive.
